Garden tool rentals come in handy when it makes better sense to rent rather than buy a particular tool.
Maybe you need a seed sprayer because you are planting a large lawn and you don't intend to replant in the next 4 years.
OR
You need to use a chain saw, but you don't want to own it because it's too dangerous to live around the house with a bunch of very inquisitive and adventurous kids around.
OR
You need to use a composter, or a riding lawn mower, or any expensive tool but you can't afford to buy it at the moment.
These are everyday reasons that make people look to garden tool rentals for help. But the problems faced by all include
Where can I find tool rentals?
How can I make sure they are good?
Do I need to sign a contract?
How do I pay?
Options for Renting Garden Tools
Garden Tool Shops - Many local garden tool shops offer rental services. If they don't you could look for a local landscaping company. They'd be glad to help for a fee.
Tool Libraries - Some communities have tool libraries. This is a collection of commonly needed tools which is rented out to library members in the same way a book library is run. Ask around if there's one in your community. If there's none, you and your friends can start one.
Tool Rental Companies - These are companies dedicated to providing and renting different types of tools to those that need them. They have tools of all types - garden tools, construction tools, landscaping tools etc. Here's an example of a garden tool rental company.
Ensuring that you get the best
To ensure that you get the best from a garden tool rental, you need to find out the following details
1. The age of the tools you will be hiring - Older tools don't function as well as newer ones. In addition, they are more prone to accidents and damage.
2. Accident history - Have there been many accidents by users when using the tools. If many accidents have been reported, be careful. If just 1 or 2 have occurred it might not be a tool problem. Some may not give you this information but ask all the same.
3. Is there any insurance. What type of insurance exactly? Accident, fire, theft etc
4. Which manufacturers produce the tools being rented out? Are they reputable?
5. Do they provide technical support and how easy is it to access?
6. Can you get a refund and on what circumstances?
7. Who will be responsible for transportation and delivery?
8. How far is the garden tool rental from the place where the tool is needed? This will be important in estimating transportation costs and the speed of arrival of human technical assistance at the location.
Signing a contract
You will need to sign a contract. Look at the terms very well and don't forget to look at the fine print. Issues that need to be clarified include those already stated above. There are more. A simple rule is to make sure all the questions you have are clearly answered in the contract.
